Talk to your family calendar: connect Quok to Home Assistant voice
Connect Quok to Home Assistant and its Voice Preview Edition speaker, and your family can add to the shopping list or check the calendar by saying it out loud.

Your hands are covered in flour when you notice you just used the last two eggs. By the time you have washed up, found your phone, and unlocked it, the thought is gone. The eggs stay forgotten until someone stands in front of an empty carton next weekend.
If your home runs on Home Assistant, there is a better way. Connect Quok to it and the voice assistant you already talk to can write to the real family shopping list, check the shared calendar, and tick off tasks. Say it out loud, and it lands where the whole family will see it.
What you need
Home Assistant 2026.4.3 or later. The connection uses the Model Context Protocol integration that ships with Home Assistant.
A conversation agent that can use external tools. An Assist pipeline backed by an AI model, from whichever provider you already use in Home Assistant.
Something to talk to. The Voice Preview Edition speaker is built for this, but Assist on your phone or any voice satellite works the same way.
A family with Quok Plus. An organizer or adult in the family creates the connection credentials.
How the connection works
Quok speaks the Model Context Protocol, an open standard that lets AI apps use other services as tools. Home Assistant connects to Quok the same way our own assistant does: as you, with your permissions, over the same secure sign-in you use in the app.
That last part matters. The voice assistant sees what you can see and changes what you can change, nothing more. Private events stay private, and you review exactly what the connection is allowed to do before you approve it. You can revoke it from Quok at any time.
Set it up once
Create credentials in Quok. Open Preferences, choose Connect an AI app, and create credentials for Home Assistant. Quok shows the server address, client ID, and secret.
Add them to Home Assistant. Save the client ID and secret as an application credential, then add the Model Context Protocol integration with the Quok server address.
Sign in and approve. Home Assistant opens a Quok sign-in page. Check the app name and capabilities, then allow access.
Give your agent the tools. In your conversation agent settings, enable the Quok connection. Without this step the integration connects but the agent never uses it.

What your family can say
"Add eggs to the Quok shopping list." The item appears on the shared list, in everyone's pocket, before you have rinsed your hands.
"What's on the family calendar tomorrow?" The assistant reads back the plan while you pack bags or make lunches.
"Move swimming to five." The event updates for the whole family, so nobody works from the old time.
"Mark the recycling done." The task is checked off the moment it happens, not when someone remembers to open an app.
One tip from our own homes: Home Assistant likes to handle simple list requests itself before asking the AI. Saying "the Quok shopping list" makes sure the request reaches your family's real list. The Help Center guide shows how to change that default if you prefer plain phrasing.
A speaker that knows the family plan
A shared family calendar works because everyone can check it and everyone can add to it. Voice removes the last bit of friction: the moments when your hands are full, your phone is elsewhere, or a thought will not survive a lock screen.
